Ma Browns

As children, we were raised in Compton, California by our aunt, whom we affectionately called Ma Brown, short for Mother Brown. Ma Brown had migrated to American from Jamaica in the 1960s bring with her a talent for hairdressing and designing flower arrangements. Our home in California was always filled with floral scents, along with friends, family, extended family, and anyone else who felt comfortable in the warmth of Ma Brown's home. When it came to washing our hair, Ma Brown would get us together and blend up, Oatmeal, honey, add a little coconut and other various herbs to treat and condition our hair, locals always commented on how shiny and healthy our hair was. Wash day at Ma Brown's was an exciting event with lots of laughs, as we played in the mix of mucky oats, twisted with honey and oil for those of us with thick African textured hair, or cream for those of with softer hair wavy, curly hair. Our hair would be shiny, health and full of bounce that lasted for days, the neighbours would say, "you all got that good hair" but we called it, the Ma Brown way! Today in tribute, we have created Ma Brown's, Traditional, Oatmeal & Honey range of hair products, so that we could share with you the Ma Brown way!
